Casual Mom

George is starting to cling better to mom Daisy. She doesn't have to hold him and support him as much when she is on the move. George is starting to sit up on his own and possibly teething (he is sucking and chewing on his fingers). Daisy has been putting baby George down a lot. This is unusual for chimp moms, but not for Daisy. At the Little Rock Zoo, she was known to do this with her previous son. We are monitoring their health and behavior continuously. Daisy makes sure to place George on a blanket or a nest of hay and never leaves him for long periods of time. Visitors to Knoxville Zoo may also see her carrying him upside down. This is her own unique mothering style.

Daisy seems like a wonderful mother! She's very attentive. I'm so excited to have George at the Knoxville Zoo. Alice
